To: We are petitioning our cheer coach, Principal Curtis, and the Fresno Unified School District/School Board.
Help Hoover High School Cheerleaders Wear Their Uniforms To School On Game Days
We would like out Hoover High School cheer coach to allow us to wear our cheer uniforms on football "game days" in order for all cheer members to not only show support for our football team and school, but to also show school spirit and create a positive culture on campus. Football players are allowed to to wear their uniforms on "game days," and as athletes, we would like to be able to do the same. Cheer team members are also expected to purchase expensive uniforms, unlike other sports team members, and would like to be able to utilize those uniforms. Under Title IX of the US Department of Education, "No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance." We believe that our cheer team should be able to participate in daily school activities/spirit on campus, just as the football team is allowed to do. We also request that Principal Curtis, and FUSD, take our request into consideration. Thank you!
Why is this important?
It is important for equality, for us to feel supported as "athletes," and because many of our families spend a large amount of money supporting us. Though we are in the public school system within Fresno Unified School District and though we are athletes, we receive no financial help. We are also searching for equality and the chance to support our school.
How it will be delivered
We will reach out to students, families, and the community.
