Bill S 2838, An Act Upgrading the Grid and Protecting Ratepayers, was not passed at the statehouse before the end of this legislative session. That represents a major cause for concern among the residents of Massachusetts. Members of the Senate & House needed to reconcile an abridged version of this bill that could
- expedite siting and permitting issues (while promoting environmental justice) for companies building electrical infrastructure; and,
- Put Gas In The Past - by halting expansion of the natural gas infrastructure.
With the leaders of the Senate and House blaming each other for the failure to pass this bill, this is hardly the time for catfighting. With this bill two years in the making, that this bill did not go forward even in an abridged state leaves ratepayers where they started, at ground zero.
One fact is clear: the timeline toward improving our environment is growing shorter.
The House MUST reconvene to pass this bill.
