Repair the Public Steps on Avenue B

The public steps from Avenue B to Ardmore Boulevard have been closed for years yet neighbors without transportation continue to crawl over and through the chains onto this dangerous access to their groceries, prescriptions etc.  Although the Borough received a large grant to repair/replace these steps as well as two other sets of steps, nothing has been done.  The grant has only one more year on its timeline.

We, the residents of Forest Hills and Chalfant, demand that the steps on Avenue B be replaced using the grant funds designated for this purpose.  Tearing them down and leaving the hillside without steps will only make a dangerous situation worse.  I have watched pregnant women, entire families including tiny children and our older neighbors continue to use the steps despite their danger so they do not have to carry heavy bags an additional quarter to half mile extra. They will continue to take the shortcut, now onto a slippery dirt hillside.

Why is this important?

We live in a beautiful borough with so many positives.  One of the quirky but important and positive features is our 12 sets of public steps that allow neighbors to save time and distance by going straight up a hill as opposed to winding, around long roads that often do not have sidewalks.  The Avenue B steps serve a portion of Forest Hills  (as well as our neighbors in Chalfant Borough) that has high numbers of rental properties and folks who rely on their feet to get them places.

Please join our effort to allow those who must walk for necessities to have a safe, shorter commute to and from their homes.
