• Accept Sycamore Creek Community School Charter / Acepte la petición en apoyar la escuela Sycamore...
(Español a continuación) On Wednesday, February 13, 9am at 200 Kalmus Dr, Costa Mesa, Come tell the OC Board of Education that you want a public Waldorf charter school available in Huntington Beach next year! The board may not hear us until closer to noon, so please come late if you can make it to show your support. Also, please comment on our online petition here saying 1) who you are, 2) where you live, and 3) why you want Waldorf education available. We are appearing before the OC Board of Education to ask for approval to open a public Waldorf school in OVSD. With our petition, budget, and facilities plan firmly developed, we are asking the board to approve our petition to open a public charter where your child and his/her teacher progress through grades 1-8 together, where the teacher delights the children with imaginative chalkboard art and storytelling that frame the daily lessons, and where all children learn to support each other and their school through service in art, cooking, gardening, woodworking, knitting and sewing, music, drama, and much more! This education costs $14,500+ annually at the private Waldorf schools in Southern California. Tell the board why you want accessible Waldorf education for all families in the comment section of the petition. -Do you want more variety and choices of educational pathways for kids? -Do you think that integrating arts (music, drawing, painting, modeling, etc.) into the curriculum rather than offering them as electives transforms the way children learn? -Are you interested in children having a chance to stay with the same class of students and the same teacher for grades 1-8, building a big family? -Do you value the emphasis that Waldorf places on developing children's emotional and social skills as well as their intellects? Thank you so much for your support! See you on the 13th!

  • Laws for the Dogs
My petition is to save the dogs around the world from being put to sleep for things not in their control. They should have the same rights as humans. Humans get second chances all the time, yet these dogs from dog fighting cases have no rights and are put to sleep immediately because of their bloodlines because the type of dogs they normally are (pit bulls). These dogs need to be safe, and I'll do anything in my power to keep them safe. If these dogs can be saved, then they should be, and yes if the dog is not safe to be around then that's another story, but when a dog is put into a ring with a dog that will do anything to kill it, then it will do anything to survive, just like a human. Most of these dogs come out and they are loving animals and can be put into a loving home. Even if they don't get along with other dogs, they can still find a home; these dogs are given up on too fast.

  • Limit Terms in Office
Representatives no longer serve the people but their interests. We have limited terms for our President. Why not make this essential change to other parts of our governement? By limiting the amount of time that officials can serve as Senator, Representative etc. we limit their powers. A limitation will push more represenatives to make the right choices for their people and will reduce corruption. It will help to bring new blood into our political system and will force good politicians to look for new oppurtunities in other levels of the political system. The limitation would not be a life sentence against working in politics; as a Senator, for example, could potentially become Vice President. However it would force those people who make a career in politics to think through their choices. We need Change! Signing this petition is just a start to putting power back into the hands of the people!

  • Police Accountability Now!
I’m starting this petition because the City of Chicago has paid over a half billion dollars in police brutality suits within the last 10 years. As a taxpayer, I’m directly affected by this and feel that the police unions should share in the cost.

  • Congress Should Veto-Proof Itself
If enough members of Congress would agree to do this, it would restore the authority of Congress, which the people who drafted our Constitution intended to be the most powerful of the three branches. It would put needed limits on the imperial presidency we have seen under recent administrations of both parties.

  • End Government Shutdowns
I don't think it's fair to use the citizens of the United States as hostages in budget negotiations. I think if Congress couldn't adjourn until they reached an agreement, it would certainly speed up the negotiation process. Congress should be constitutionally mandated to reach agreement on all budget issues without adjourning. This would lessen or prevent any future Government Shutdowns.

  • Netflix! Please remove Louis CK shows.
Disgraced comedian, Louis CK, who already admitted to past sexual misconduct, is again revealing his true nature, by making jokes about Parkland Highschool shooting victims and survivors. Such an emrassment should not be celebrated on Netflix. Netflix has been a pioneer in changing hearts and minds through increasing representation and creating content that makes all Americans question their assumptions about the other. As such, Netflix should keep its values by removing any Louis CK content from its streaming services.

State Farm has stolen more than $1.225 billion from bank accounts of its former policyholders—after they had cancelled policies and State Farm (confirmed by the company’s actions)—had no intention of reciprocally providing services. It also explains how State Farm has cut expenditures by billions of dollars (including $4.841 billion during 2017, compared to 2016)—through breaching of contracts (not honoring policies) on a massive scale.

  • Protection for Furloughed Workers
I am not a government worker, nor am I related to or personally know any. I’m starting this petition because I lived paycheck to paycheck for many years, as many of these effected workers do. None of them should have to fear losing their home, car or even good credit due to this or any future shutdown.

  • Eliminate Electoral College
Current and past presidents have been elected by a minority. This is not the democratic way. We've seen the results of gerrymandering and it breeds divisiveness in our populace. Let's at least have a President that we can all agree has been elected by the people, not by the electoral college.

  • Bring Term Limits to the Chicago City Council!
Alderman in Chicago shouldn't have lifetime appointment, but far too many of them behave like they aren't accountable to their voters. We have real problems in our city, and we need new leaders who will take them on.
