We got punked! The CDC is NOT getting all COVID-19 raw data as promised a month ago!
Petition Congress to pass legislation that calls for all raw COVID-19 data to be sent to the CDC for processing, analysis, and reporting to policy makers and the public so we know what's happening in real time.
Why is this important?
Truth in reporting is more important to the American people than ever.
This is a matter of national security. People are getting sick and dying from COVID-19 in the towns and cities we call home. Many people have been infected without even knowing it due to lack of accurate and consistent information, lack of testing, and delayed reporting, hampering our ability to make informed decisions to help us get through the pandemic. Hospitals are overburdened and hospital staff are not only becoming infected themselves, but are suffering due to burnout.
What can we do?
SIGN THIS PETITION to prove to Congress that enough Americans are distressed and angered by this lack of transparency and concern for our very lives to warrant legislative action by our elected leaders on both sides of the aisle.

Why is this important?
I am a physician, extremely concerned that Americans will never know the true extent of the pandemic since July 14th. Victoria Albright, Bruce S Schneider MD, Eric Godfrey, PhD, Professor Emeritus of Sociology, and Sara Fitzgerald have joined me in sponsoring this petition.
We are in grave (pun intended) danger of losing accurate tracking of COVID-19 cases, recoveries, and deaths if the order by the Trump administration continues to be implemented without intervention by Congress.
Here’s what actually happened.
We know you have to “follow the money,” right? So here’s how it works: Hospitals are now required to send their data exclusively to TeleTracking Technology, a company which got a no-bid contract of $10.2 million of our tax dollars, just for starters.
Per Daily Kos, “the CEO of that company, Michael Zamagias, has direct links with not just New York real estate projects in general, but with billions of dollars of projects with the Trump Organization. To build the new database, TeleTracking turned to data-mining firm Palantir. That company is owned by billionaire Republican donor, Facebook investor, and would-be vampire Peter Thiel. Palantir was also behind ‘profiling tools’ used by ICE to select targets.” Nice.
NPR reports, “When the Trump administration told hospitals to send crucial data about coronavirus cases and intensive care capacity to a new online system, it promised the change would be worth it. The data would be more complete and transparent and an improvement over the old platform run by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, administration officials said. Instead, the public data hub created under the new system is updated erratically and is rife with inconsistencies and errors, data analysts say.” (https://www.npr.org/sections/health- shots/2020/07/31/897429054/covid -19-hospital-data-system-that-bypasses-cdc-plagued-by-delays-inaccuracies?utm_campaign=storyshare&utm_source=facebook.com&utm_medium=social&fbclid=IwAR0095pdumzexOEVkCQQEduundVs77FV8ctAbzsu1X3oC5T9BvIroqw9idc)
Remember when HHS promised to update us “multiple times each day?” Then stated that information would be updated daily? Those daily updates have yet to materialize. An HHS spokesperson told NPR via email, “We will be updating the site to make it clear that the estimates are only updated weekly.” The HHS Protect Public Data Hub (https://protect-public.hhs.gov) offers three items as a “Hospital Utilization Snapshot,” but no in-depth analysis of any worth. The site is amateurish, and the reports--questionable at best--are OVER A WEEK OLD! Policy decision-making requires almost instantaneous analysis of data by seasoned professionals.
Gathering and assembling hospital data is a difficult process in normal times. Forcing already overworked hospitals to implement a new, untried system in the midst of a pandemic of historic proportions is lunacy! Our concerns have been expressed by several relevant agencies, organizations, and prominent
● Twenty-two state attorneys general have demanded that HHS reverse course.
● The American Medical Informatics Association and the American College of
Medical Informatics stated in an open-letter: “...We are deeply concerned that the
Administration...will worsen our ability to mitigate, suppress, and recover from our
national public health emergency. (https://www.amia.org/news-and-publications/press-release/open-letter-american-medical-informatics-association-and-american)
● Four former CDC directors or acting directors – Dr Tom Frieden, Dr Jeffrey Koplan, Dr (and 4 Star General) David Satcher and Dr Richard Besser, wrote in a Washington Post op-ed “We ran the CDC. No
president ever politicized its science the way Trump has.” They warned of “political leaders and others attempting to undermine the CDC.” (https://www.washingtonpost.com/outlook/2020/07/14/cdc-directors-trump-politics/) The data is already suspect, and the CDC is being undermined from without and from within.
And by the way, if hospitals did try to send raw data to the CDC using the CDC database platform, they would be in violation of the law, and could lose their government funding, which is crucial to their very survival.

How it will be delivered
We plan to approach both a Democrat and a Republican in the House and the Senate to sponsor legislation that will ensure preservation of the raw data. However, we cannot do anything about how the CDC will now handle, analyze and report the results. That organization has been gutting itself from within, firing multiple experienced and necessary personnel. The former Directors of the CDC have expressed alarm openly.
Meantime, do what you can to stay safe!
