Charles Street Crosswalk

Construct a crosswalk on Charles Street at the intersection of Woodbrook Lane.

Why is this important?

Woodbrook Lane is an entrance to Lake Roland Park accessible within walking distance to many citizens east of the park. However, there is currently no safe method for crossing Charles Street on foot. Crossing at either the intersection of Stevenson south of Woodbrook, or Bellona north of Woodbrook, requires a person to walk on the west side of Charles St. without a sidewalk, on sloping grass.
Lake Roland Park is one of Towson and North Baltimore county residents' most significant green spaces. The ability to access the park without driving benefits all: less burning of fossil fuels, less traffic, less parking space required, healthier citizens, increased foot traffic through the commerce of Charles Street, which research shows increases business profits.
Research also reveals that time in nature reduces stress, improves sleep, strengthens the immune system, fosters creativity, boosts mental function, and happiness—all more necessary than ever in this time of COVID. This is a low-cost, proactive way to support the health and well-being of our community.

Tell MDOT State Highway Administration to support the initiative to provide safe walking passage into Lake Roland by constructing a crosswalk on Charles Street. You can also email these officials directly to voice your support:
