Entertainment industry workers need an extension to FPUC

Entertainment industry workers need an extension to FPUC

The $600/wk Pandemic Unemployment Compensation needs to be extended until at least the new year.

Why is this important?

The entire live event industry has been shut down plunging everyone working in it into unemployment with no end in sight. People like me who have invested 38 years of my life to be at the top of my game working on Broadway. The extra $2400 monthly has allowed me to have a grain of hope that I can hold on long enough living in one of the most expensive areas in the country. If I lose it, I will need to sell my place and move away from NYC. Hundreds of thousands more are in the same position all over the country. We are ready to work but work is not ready for us.

Reasons for signing

  • I work on broadway, my job is on hold til next year. I’ve applied to over 30 jobs in the past month and haven’t heard back. I have experience in medical, office, retail, Gemology, aquatics, baking and making drinks outside of my broadway career. I still can’t find work.
  • I've worked in the trade show industry for 30 years. We've had our ups and downs over the years, from Dot Com boom to post 9-11 bust, but we've always bounced back eventually. Yet, we've never been so completely shut out of work as we are now. That $600 per week from April thru July kept many of us in our homes with food on the table, but it ended too soon.
  • Artists are essential for mental health and enjoyment! We need to support the people who create the art that we all enjoy!
