Let's Ban Plastic Bags in New York -- Now

Stop the senseless pollution now. It's time to ban single-use plastic bags in New York City.

Why is this important?

New York is a horrible offender when it comes to plastic bag waste. We carelessly throw out 100,000 tons of plastic bags every year and pay other states to take our trash because there's nowhere for it to go. Our use of plastic bags in completely unsustainable and has to stop. It's time to follow San Francisco, L.A. and Seattle, and ban plastic bags in New York City forever.

Reasons for signing

  • Moreover, large stores like Key Foods routinely break the law regarding plastic bag recycling (they're supposed to provide recycling facilities if they have more than 10,000 sq ft of retail space, or part of a chain of more than 5 stores with more than 5,000 sq ft of retail space.
