Pause PARCC in Westford, MA

The Westford Community is asking the Westford School Committee and Superintendent Olsen to pause PARCC for the 2014-15 school year.

Why is this important?

The Westford Community has not had the chance to thoroughly discuss the new assessment test called PARCC (Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Career) which may, or may not be a replacement for MCAS (Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System). As a result, we think it's best for Westford to hold off implementing PARCC for the 2014-2015 school year.

Reasons for signing

  • Dear Superintendent Olsen, The MCAS to PARCC transition is of vital importance to parents like me who understand that standardized testing drives education ruberics. Having the right tests is a one of the predictive factors in educating our children well to prepare them for college and life. I want my Westrod school administration to share the details of the Federal changes to our current MCAS before making a rush to change. Thank you. A concerned and involved parent and citizen of West...
  • As a parent of a Westford student I feel that it is important to understand what Common Core brings to the (educational) table and how it is an improvement (or not) over what our current curriculum is.
  • I'm not only a concerned resident, but a parent with children in the district. We need more time to understand what is going on with Common Core, since we will be forced to live with it in 2015-2016... that is... unless we can do something about it legislatively.
