Petition To Change Racist Street Names In Nashville

Change the names of streets in Nashville metro area, including Forest Hills, that honor and glorify Civil War leaders and battle sites and the founder of the KKK: Robert E Lee Drive, Confederate Drive, Jefferson Davis Drive.

Why is this important?

Nashville has a long history of racial injustice. We must end glorification of slavery and racism by removing these tributes. Atlanta has already done the same to its Confederate Drive. It’s time, Nashville.

Reasons for signing

  • We can’t change history, but we can change streets names to make the future brighter.
  • As a 20 year old college student, I can confidently say that the time for our nation to move past its glorification of the Confederacy and the alteration of its impact and intention. Ultimately, these changes will happen, because one day the younger generations will be in charge. I just read an article for my class and learned that to this day, there are people who still don't actually know what the Confederacy actually stood for, and that is due to our failure as a nation.
  • Others argue that it is part of history. History can live in history books but no need to name streets after someone that fought for slavery, not in 2020.
