Berkeley City Council: No Cuts to South Berkeley Non-profitsFor decades the City of Berkeley has disinvested in South Berkeley and this year’s budget reinforces this trend: South Berkeley-based organizations face over $250,000 in cuts -- three times greater than any other neighborhood. We oppose the proposed cuts in City funding to South Berkeley nonprofits.*305 of 400 SignaturesCreated by Jason Wilkinson

Help Keep 240 Children in School in BrooklynSt. Jerome Church on the corner of Newkirk and Nostrand Avenue in Brooklyn, NY is evicting the Friends of Crown Heights School which is located at the church on June 30, 2016. That means over 240 children ages 2 to 5 will be denied the education they have every right to receive. This also means that the parents of these children will be at risk of losing their jobs due to not having childcare for their children. This is the beginning of the 'School to Prison Pipeline System' and the systematic bias and Injustice that is going on in African American and Caribbean communities in New York City. This is a true hypocritical act by the church, and is not in the doctrines and teachings of God. It is time that we as a community stop sitting by and allowing our children to become victims to corruption, injustice and greed. It is time that we show our children that we will fight for their education and for their futures. Our Demands: ·Halt All Evictions of Friends of Crown Heights ·Halt All dealings with the charter school for the current building that Friends of Crown Heights occupies. ·Renew the lease for another 4 years with no limitations on a renewal after the 4 years, and accept an Offer of $400,000 a year. ·Give a public apology to the children of Friends of Crown Heights. ·Cater more to the community that gives their time, offerings and tithes to St. Jerome Church with outreach and assistance.16 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Anthony Beckford

Payday/Quick Cash Establishments are in Conflict with our Sub Area Plan.We are asking you deny permission to the opening of Easy Money at the intersection of Bell Road/Mt. view road or any other location within our Community. The Antioch/South East Nashville area is already over saturated with these quick cash type establishments. These type establishments are in direct conflict with our Sub Area Plan. There are already several of these type businesses within a 1/4 mile of the proposed location for the Easy Money site. We also have a huge number of these businesses within a 5 mile radius. The people in our community are tirelessly working to improve the area and bring it back to the glory it experienced in the 1980's and 1990's. To allow more of these Quick Cash type businesses to open within our zip codes of 37013 and 37217 would be a travesty of justice to our community and would dramatically impede our progress. We the people of the Antioch and South East Nashville Communities submit this Petition and ask that you deny permission for Easy Money or any other business of this type to open additional locations in our Community. Please do not allow these establishments to further impede our progress. Thank You, The citizens of Zip Code areas 37013 and 37217.242 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Tanya Hans

Gov. Quinn, Don't Frack Us!Gov. Quinn: don't frack us! Say "no" to unenforceable, inadequate fracking regulations. HB2615 will not protect Illinois. The deceptive fracking industry will probably work around many of the regulations when they encounter the feeble enforcement in this state. There are only 12 regulators at the IDNR to oversee thousands of dangerous fracking wells, so enforcement will be next to impossible. And HB2615 has too many gaping holes in it to protect Illinois: No local control, no limits on or prioritization of the use of our precious water, no real air pollution protections, no worker safety. Seismic activity is not even considered, the toxic flowback from the wells will not be handled as hazardous waste, and the setbacks still put our children and families at risk. HB2615 will not protect us from spills, blowouts, water contamination, health effects or possibly even earthquakes. New York State is extending their 5-year moratorium for another 2 years in order to study the dangerous effects of fracking. Illinois residents deserve that same kind of due diligence by their lawmakers and the government. We deserve a moratorium on fracking and an investigative task force, HB3086 and SB1418. Let's not frack our way into a worsening climate crisis. Let's invest in our clean, green, energy future instead of fracking our farmland!139 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Lora Chamberlain

Safeway, Starbucks and Target: Stop Bankrolling Anti-GMO Food Labeling Efforts! The Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA), of which your company is a dues-paying member, contributed more than $2 million last year to defeat Proposition 37, a California citizens' initiative that would have required mandatory labeling of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in food products. Now, the GMA is so far the largest donor to defeat a similar initiative, I-522, on the ballot on November 5 in Washington state. By supporting the GMA, your company is supporting efforts to deny me a basic consumer right, one that consumers in 64 other countries have. I will not spend one more dime on your products until your company supports my right to know if my food contains GMOs. Specifically, I want you to support I-522 by making a substantial donation to the YES on I-522 campaign. I'm also asking you to demand that the GMA support consumers' right to know, and if it won't, that your company withdraw from the GMA. The New York Times just published a new poll showing that 93% of consumers want mandatory labeling of GMOs. As a consumer, I choose not to support your company or your products until you support my right to know.82,541 of 100,000 SignaturesCreated by Katherine Paul, Organic Consumers Association
