National Marine Fisheries Service has issued a permit for the California Thresher Shark and Swordfish Drift Gillnet Industry to drown and kill Humpback and Sperm Whales in their hideous driftnets in California waters! We should be thanking whales, not killing them! United States Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker, please direct NMFS stop this at once by cancelling the current permit(s) and never issuing another one.
Why is this important?
What our whales already face is staggering, record numbers of crab pot entanglements, seismic and sonar testing, ship strikes and more. Issuing permits to drown them as well must no longer be tolerated. Tell NMFS to live up to their initials: No More Funny Stuff!
