To: U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops

Be pastoral, not partisan

The bishops ended up not using anything about abortion in their new echarist document and will not be using it to deny pro-choice catholics communion!

The Eucharist is the central, unifying ritual of the Catholic church — a sacrament that is meant to bring us into communion with one another. Using it as a tool for political intimidation betrays its power and its purpose. In a country and church already riven with hostility and brokenness, the bishops chose to be partisan instead of pastoral, cruel rather than Christ-like. They chose to ignore Jesus’ command to “feed one another,” despite the fact that a significant majority of U.S. Catholics oppose withholding Communion and other Sacraments from supporters of abortion rights. Join fellow Catholics in telling the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops to stop weaponizing the Eucharist. Call on them to bring healing and unity to our church and our country, not harm and divisiveness.

Why is this important?

As Catholics, we know that religious leaders cannot separate us from the love of God, and we will not let them abuse their power to score political points with the right wing.

How it will be delivered

We plan to send the petition to the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops after their fall meeting.
