• Ziegler Must Immediately Resign or Be Removed from the Sarasota School Board by Gov. DeSantis
Ms. Ziegler's conduct has been a continuous distraction from the business of the Board  — the education of our students, and the Board's stated commitment of "Every student every day."  At the May 7, 2024 School Board meeting she proposed a resolution defying constitutional officer responsibilities by refusing to uphold changes to Title IX. She claims she was protecting "our girls" while openly discriminating against certain students. This makes our students unsafe.  Ms. Ziegler has damaged countless students' lives and is an embarrassment to the Sarasota County School District.  She needs to resign or be removed. Join us in this effort.

  • Remove insurrectionist Ginni Thomas from the board of the Library of Congress NOW!
Evidence revealed in 2022 shows that Ginni Thomas texted Trump Chief of Staff Mark Meadows—as well as legislators in Wisconsin and Arizona—urging them to overturn the election results. And she even attended the Stop the Steal rally on January 6. The Trust Fund Board of the Library Congress manages over $200 million in donations for the library. We cannot trust an insurrectionist like Ginni Thomas to oversee and manage federal dollars. Ginni Thomas was a part of a group of far-right activists who pushed Trump to get rid of members of his administration who were thought to be “disloyal” to him and suggested that those members be replaced with people they chose. Months later, Trump nominated Ginni to the Board of the Library of Congress. Justice Clarence Thomas has a clear conflict of interest, and despite that, he has refused to recuse himself from Trump’s Supreme Court cases that would have implications for his wife. The corruption knows no bounds. President Biden has removed many Trump appointees from their posts. The time is NOW to remove Ginni Thomas from the board of the Library of Congress. Will you add your name to the petition?

  • Stop Delaying Trump's Criminal Trials!
Three out of the four of Trump's criminal cases are postponed—indefinitely.  Trump-appointed judge Aileen Canon has been dragging her feet in Trump’s classified documents case in Florida, and she has failed to reschedule the trial that was originally to take place in May 2024. The right-wing-packed Supreme Court has the federal trial accusing Trump of trying to overturn the election results in 2020 tied up, refusing to rapidly review Trump’s bogus and corrupt appeal for "absolute immunity" of all crimes he committed while in office.  And finally, Trump's crusade to disqualify the prosecutor in his Georgia case, also related to overturning the 2020 election results, has indefinitely delayed the trial as the Georgia Court of Appeals debates whether to allow Fulton County District Attorney Fani T. Willis to oversee the charges brought against Trump and 14 other co-conspirators.  For far too long, there have been different sets of justice in our legal system—one for the wealthy and powerful, and another for the rest of us. And this hypocrisy has burdened Indigenous, Black, Latinx, and Asian American communities disproportionately. And now, this double standard is on full display, as someone who should be held to the highest ethical and legal standards in our country manipulates our legal system to evade accountability and hide information from the public.  Trump’s crimes were crimes committed against our democracy and against the American people. We have a right to a speedy trial. Sign the petition to urge our legal and justice system to do its job and STOP THE DELAYS!

  • Oppose Resolution 218
In 2008, an Albany county legislator tried to pass a resolution in opposition to the Iraq War. It led to an hours long debate on the floor, and what came of it was that Albany county decided that Resolutions would be used to codify things into law, while Proclamations which are not voted on, but legislators sign on to if they would like, can be used as an honorary/symbolic gesture of support. Recently, the Albany County legislature has decided they want to codify the policy around proclamations, more specifically they don't want to issue proclamations for controversial issues, or for issues that urge another body to take action. However, they have drafted a policy that doesn't outright exclude such proclamations from being issued. This is problematic because it gives rise for the policy to be applied in a potentially discriminatory manner.

  • No more psychosomatic Diagnosis for people who have suffered real physical injuries!
To have equal rights, better health care amongst people who are put at a disadvantage because of a false diagnosis gives people a greater disadvantage than others to get the proper medical care treatments that they deserve just like anyone else. There needs to be stricter laws put in place before a diagnosis of psychosomatic can be made and be determined. Very strict steps that a health care provider must establish in order to rule everything out with proper testing, evaluation of past and current medical history and traumas. This diagnosis can never be made and labeled due to a MVA or any kinda physical trauma and injury that they have sustained. This hits very near and dear to me because of the medical neglect my children and I have had to face while my children have had to watch me not get the proper medical treatments and attention that I deserved and so they deserved as well. We have an epidemic in opiates and suicide rates at an ultimate high due to the medical neglect and errors that are made by given false diagnosis to patients are severely harmful. When labeling them for a mental health diagnosis instead of there real physical injuries. This is harmful to our medical community and Families.

  • Save San Diego's Recreational Swim Programs
The City's swim program activities had to rebuild after being unavailable during the COVID-19 pandemic when pools were closed, followed by a shortage of trained and certified pool guards, swim instructors, pool managers, and coaches. There was also broken pool infrastructure that took months to fix. City pools provide: • Swim lessons/classes for youth and adults at various skill levels • Year-round youth swim teams and water polo • Year-round access to recreational and lap swimming sessions for the community at large • Local high schools use city pools for their swim and water polo programs Importance of recreation swim and water polo teams: • Affordable for all • More inclusive of all swim levels; providing greater opportunities for individual swimmers - as young as age 6 • Kids who swim on recreational swim and water polo teams advance to high school aquatic programs • Neighborhood camaraderie and building community Cutting year-round recreational swim and water polo team programs: • Negatively impacts the recreational swim teams and swimmers • Large breaks in training, causing a loss of continuity, hinder progress and competitiveness in these sports, fracturing the swim and water polo programs • Families may turn to clubs or private facilities that cost significantly more and are further from their neighborhood and community Families may stop participation altogether because they are unable to find competitive aquatic programs that are budget-friendly and close to home • Creates a greater disparity in the quality of City athletic swim and water polo programs and creates a larger inequity among all residents Result in lost revenue opportunities for the City Water activities may be less top of mind for families, and there could be an increased risk of water-related accidents and drownings Deprive young people of positive recreational opportunities and social interactions San Diego boasts 26 miles of shoreline, 15 pools citywide, and a climate where residents can swim year-round. The City’s Parks and Recreation Department should invest in its swim and water polo team programs, not cut staff and resources, and continue to let pools fall into disrepair. The children learning to swim today will be more confident in the water creating a safer community. They could one day be the City’s next generation of instructors, lifeguards, first responders, and City leaders. Sign this petition to send a message to our City's leadership to preserve our youth's swim and water polo team programs.

  • Make it Illegal to Target People with Photosensitive Content
This could be deadly to those who ARE photosensitive. It furthers the idea that bullying is okay and our disability (epilepsy) is something to laugh about. We have faced stigma since ancient times, but if the world is so inclusive these days, why is there an entire community that is able to be targeted and attacked?

  • Demand term limits for Supreme Court justices
The need for term limits is urgent. Currently, justices serve unusually long terms, with some holding office for as long as 35 years. This unbounded tenure allows a single justice to shape the direction of the law for generations, without regard for the evolving views of the electorate. It's time to put an end to this undemocratic practice and ensure that our highest court remains accountable to the people it serves. This issue goes beyond accountability—it’s about protecting our fundamental rights and freedoms. With every Supreme Court vacancy, monumental issues hang in the balance, from reproductive rights to voting rights to healthcare access.

  • Add Your Name: Donald Trump is not above the law
Donald Trump is furious that he’s finally facing accountability for his hush money payment to Stormy Daniels (which Common Cause exposed to be likely illegal back in 2018). In a common pattern for Trump, he’s going all out to intimidate anyone who tries to enforce the law against him. He mercilessly smeared the public servants involved in this case – and their families – and is now under an expanded gag order to stop these dangerous attacks. [1] We're glad to see the judge in this case hold firm to the rule of law – but we must immediately prepare for yet another onslaught of disinformation and even potential threats from Trump’s backers who believe the rules don’t apply to him. If you agree Trump is NOT above the law, join us in thanking the public servants working on this case who’ve put that into action – and urge them to hold firm against any far-right backlash, intimidation, or disinformation. • Pass the Freedom to Vote Act and John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act!
Protecting and expanding our freedom to vote. Drawing congressional districts to ensure fair representation for all. Reducing the influence of Big Money in politics. Combatting partisan election subversion. By advancing policies like these in the Freedom to Vote Act and the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, we will be able to achieve rapid progress on the issues we care about most. It is what will give us the power to organize for better workplace rights, restore and expand abortion access across the country, pass laws to stop oil and gas companies from polluting the Earth for profit, force pharmaceutical companies to lower prescription drug costs, finally put an end to the NRA's control of gun laws while kids are killed in schools, and more. These policies will ensure our elected officials and elections work for the people, not just the wealthy, well-connected few and big corporations. We all deserve a say in the decisions that impact our lives and futures. It is time to end the dominance of big corporations and Big Money in our politics, rid our communities of partisan-gerrymandered maps, and dismantle barriers erected to keep Black, Indigenous, young, and new Americans from voting. We must come together to demand that Congress pass the Freedom to Vote Act and John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act to make the promise of democracy real for all of us.
