President Obama: Don't give the rich even more power! The rich already run roughshod over the voters thanks to Citizens United and other Supreme Court decisions favoring Big Money and gutting democracy. And yet President Obama says he’ll sign a budget bill that increases TEN-FOLD the amount one person can donate to a political party during an election! The new ceiling would be $1.5 million, allowing the wealthy few to buy vast amounts of so-called "speech" –and power over elections and the government-- regular Americans cannot afford. Sign the petition strongly urging President Barack Obama TO VETO this and any other budget deal that increases the already outrageous and anti-democracy power of wealthy donors.8,531 of 9,000 SignaturesCreated by California Clean Money Action Fund

Governor Brown: Sign the Dark Money bill right away!We did it! Governor Brown has now signed SB 27, the bill to force Dark Money non-profits to reveal their secret funders in California elections! As California Clean Money Campaign President Trent Lange said afterwards in the Sacramento Bee: “Governor Brown’s signature of SB 27 marks a turning point in the fight to reveal secret funders of political campaigns. It starts to shed light on dark money in California and serves as an example for the entire nation." Your petitions and calls worked! SB 27 became law after more than 40,000 people like you signed petitions. More than a thousand people applied extra pressure by calling their legislator. SB 27 was a great coalition effort in which the California Clean Money Action Fund worked with not only the bill author Senator Lou Correa, the sponsor FPPC, and our CA campaign finance friends at California Common Cause, California Forward, and the League of Women Voters of California; but also with national organizations like Public Citizen, CREDO Mobile, Courage Campaign, Progressives United, Represent.Us, causes.com, MoveOn.org, Money Out Voters In Coalition, MapLight, Label GMOs: California's Grassroots, Lutheran Office of Public Policy - California, Moms Across America, and others. Thanks to everybody who signed and helped us achieve this historic victory! PLEASE ADD YOUR NAME TO THE PETITION and we'll tell you how you can help pass other crucial bills to end the dominance of Big Money in politics, like SB 52, the California DISCLOSE Act and SB 1272, the Overturn Citizens United Act. -- Your friends at the California Clean Money Campaign (www.CAdisclose.org)3,146 of 4,000 SignaturesCreated by Trent Lange, CA Clean Money

Governor Brown: Will you help us Overturn Citizens United? The Supreme Court has gutted more than one hundred years of campaign finance laws and given corporations and the rich even more power over our government -- with the outrageous rationale that limiting spending on elections limits speech. If our democratic system of representative government is to survive, these deeply damaging rulings must be overturned. SB 1272 will put a proposition on this November's ballot that will let California voters demand that Congress create a constitutional amendment to do so. Ask Governor Brown to sign it now!4,775 of 5,000 SignaturesCreated by California Clean Money Campaign

Disclosure really mattersWe won! After 40,000 people signed petitions, Governor Brown signed SB 27, the historic bill to make Dark Money non-profits reveal their secret funders. It’s a major victory, but we must also make sure voters actually see who's behind political ads. We must pass the California DISCLOSE Act, SB 52. Our SB 27 triumph shows that when tens of thousands of you apply pressure we can win! Sign the petition thanking Governor Brown for signing SB 27, and asking him to lead on passing SB 52.4,334 of 5,000 SignaturesCreated by California Clean Money Campaign

Senators Feinstein and Boxer: Pass filibuster reform now! @SenFeinstein @SenatorBoxerGreat news! Senate Majority Harry Reid and his colleagues just took the historic step of eliminating the filibuster for most presidential nominations -- which was being abused by a minority in the Senate to obstruct every recent qualified judicial nominee. The New York Times called it "the most fundamental shift in the way the Senate functions in more than a generation." This change will stop the courts from being hamstrung by vacancies. It will also prevent outrages like the recent filibusters that stalled enforcement of basic election rules by the Federal Elections Commission and that tried to make the Federal Communications Commission nominee promise not to require disclosure on political ads. Federal judge nominees and executive-office appointments can now be confirmed as the Constitution intended: under the principle of majority rule. The filibuster will still be in place for legislation and Supreme Court nominations, which is a real problem that still needs to be addressed, but this is a landmark step towards a functioning government. Nearly 6,000 Californians like you signed petitions to Senators Feinstein and Boxer urging them to pass filibuster reform – and they ended up providing the two critical votes. Thanks for reforming the filibuster, Senators Feinstein and Boxer! @SenFeinstein @SenatorBoxerGreat news! Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and his colleagues just eliminated the filibuster for most presidential nominations! This reform is crucial for a functioning government because a minority in the Senate was using the filibuster to obstruct every recent qualified judicial nominee -- with no end in sight. The New York Times called this reform "the most fundamental shift in the way the Senate functions in more than a generation." With this rule change, nominees for federal judges and executive-office appointments can now be confirmed with simple majority votes. This will really help dissolve the logjam in the courts from vacancies caused by the unprecedented number of filibusters. This change will also prevent outrages like the recent filibusters that prevented the Federal Elections Commission from enforcing basic election rules, and that threatened to block the Federal Communications Commission nominee unless he promised not to require disclosure on political ads. Nearly 6,000 Californians like you signed petitions to Senators Feinstein and Boxer urging them to pass filibuster reform – and they ended up providing the two critical votes. Please sign and share this petition to thank them!3,789 of 4,000 SignaturesCreated by Trent Lange, President of the California Clean Money Campaign

Los Angeles City Council: Don't vote to accept bigger gifts! @HerbJWessonIn these difficult times when many are struggling, voters would be appalled to learn that the Los Angeles City Council is actually considering raising the limits on gifts given to them by special interests that do business with the city The LA City Ethics Commission proposed to ban all gifts from bidders, contractors, and others with a financial stake in city decisions -- a sensible extension to the ban on contributions from them that voters overwhelmingly passed with Measure H in 2011. Alarmingly, City Council voted to not only ignore that recommendation, but to propose actually INCREASING the limits by 50%, from $100 a year to $150 a year. Los Angeles City Councilmembers are already the highest-paid in the country, receiving just under $180,000 a year. As Steve Lopez of the Los Angeles Times said, "Seems to me that if they want a gold watch, the cigars, or tickets to a ballgame or concert, they can use their own money." Sign and share this petition to tell LA councilmembers to vote NO on accepting bigger gifts now!1,062 of 2,000 SignaturesCreated by Trent Lange, CA Clean Money

Tell President Obama: Require Federal Contractors to Disclose their Political SpendingIt's no surprise that in politics the biggest corporate campaign spenders receive the most undeserved tax breaks and special favors. Did you know they often also receive billions of dollars in federal government contracts? And yet, they're not required to disclose their campaign spending on the very politicians who dole out those contracts. The good news is that although Congress is unlikely to act, right now President Obama can use an executive order to require federal contractors to disclose their political spending. Tell President Obama to take this obvious step and at least end Dark Money from taxpayer-funded contractors now!2,073 of 3,000 SignaturesCreated by California Clean Money Campaign
