Tell the NRA to Cancel Its Upcoming Convention in TexasThere’s something deeply troubling when attack after attack on our schools, places of worship, and community institutions simply go on without any government response other than thoughts, prayers, and soundbites on cable tv. While there are differences of opinion on the NRA and the exact current day interpretation of the Second Amendment, we should all be able to agree that it’s inappropriate for the largest gun lobbying organization in the world to host a celebratory convention in the very same state as this week’s mass elementary school shooting. Tell the NRA and Houston First Corporation to cancel the convention.328,010 of 400,000 SignaturesCreated by Nani

Instagram, Snapchat and TikTok: Stop Showing Abortion Disinformation Ads to TeensThese organizations aggressively lie to teens in their most vulnerable moments – telling them abortion is dangerous, that ultrasounds or other procedures are required when they aren’t, and that local clinics don’t have appointments available when they do. This creates a significant public health risk. Some experts estimate abortion bans will increase maternal mortality in women and girls of color by 33%, the same population most likely to see abortion services from a deceitful center. By profiting from these centers’ advertisements, TikTok, Instagram, and Snapchat are spreading misinformation about critical health issues to vulnerable kids.41,855 of 45,000 Signatures

Emergency! Don't let Donald Trump cut PBS KidsAs a parent of two young kids, I'm so grateful for PBS Kids, which provides free shows and games my kids love--and helps them learn. But news reports say that for the third year in a row, Donald Trump's team is planning on slashing funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), a primary funder of PBS. In his 2020 budget proposal, the federal government would cut funding to CPB by 90% in the first year alone. PBS Kids includes so many great shows, like Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood, Thomas and Friends, and Dinosaur Train. PBS Kids and other public media reach 68% of all kids age two to eight. These shows are especially important for low-income and underserved children who do not attend pre-school. PBS funding is a minuscule fraction of the federal budget. **We should be expanding our investments in early childhood education, not cutting proven supports for our littlest learners.** Donald Trump can't make these cuts unless Congress agrees. Let's make sure they hear from millions of parents and others who know the value of PBS and CPB. Please share this and help my organization, ParentsTogether Action, spread the word!!328,883 of 400,000 SignaturesCreated by Justin Ruben

Don't Ban Books About the HolocaustMaus, a Pulitzer Prize winning graphic novel about the Holocaust, was banned by the McMinn County Board of Education in Tennessee. The graphic novel is age-appropriate material provided to 8th grade students in an educational context. This is the same dangerous thinking that has lead to students being deprived the opportunity to learn about a range of issues including racial and gender-based discrimination in the classroom. Some politicians and other officials want to whitewash history, and prevent students from accessing material that deals honestly and accurately with our complicated social history. As the US Holocaust Museum wrote “Maus has played a vital role in educating about the Holocaust through sharing detailed and personal experiences of victims and survivors. On the eve of International #HolocaustRemembranceDay, it is more important than ever for students to learn this history.” As parents, grandparents, students, and advocates for teaching tolerance and peace we urge the McMinn County Board of Education to lift the ban on Maus and discourage school boards nationwide from future efforts to hide important, age-appropriate educational materials from our children.192,446 of 200,000 SignaturesCreated by Raz P.

AT&T: Help Families Afford Remote LearningDistance learning is hard enough, but for 9 million kids without reliable internet access, remote school is nearly impossible. AT&T, one of the largest internet providers in the U.S, had been offering low-cost, high-speed internet to families at $10/month - but the waiver expires September 30, just as the school year is ramping up.28,920 of 30,000 SignaturesCreated by Justin Ruben

Stop arresting and prosecuting Black Kindergarteners!Recently: - A Delaware State trooper arrested a third-grader over the theft of $1 - A 5-year-old with ADHD was charged with “battery on a police officer” in California - A Florida officer arrested a 6-year-old girl and zip-tied her hands The National Juvenile Justice Network recommends 14 as the minimum age for prosecution. But in most states -- 30 total -- there is no minimum age for at all prosecution. That means little kids who can’t read, write, or understand the concept of a crime can be prosecuted. And these ridiculous prosecutions disproportionately impact Black kids. In North Carolina, for example, nearly half of complaints are against Black children despite them being 22% of the population. This creates a school-to-prison pipeline that starts before kids even know what a “prison” is. We must end the school-to-prison pipeline and stop arresting and prosecuting little kids!75 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Justin Ruben

Tell Politicians to Protect Families, Not the NRAThere’s something deeply troubling when attack after attack on our schools, places of worship, and community institutions simply go on without any government response other than thoughts, prayers, and soundbites on cable tv. A right-wing racist gunned down ten community members in a Buffalo, NY supermarket. The attack on a Taiwanese Presbyterian Church in Laguna Hills, CA was carried out with two legally purchased guns and bags containing incendiary devices and extra ammunition. And the horrifying attack on Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, TX killed at least nineteen students and two adults with weapons legally purchased by the teen shooter. The gun homicide rate in the United States is 25 times higher than that of other developed countries. Congress must act to pass meaningful legislation immediately. Our families are under attack, and shouldn’t have to live in constant fear of our safety for one more moment. We cannot let the NRA’s political agenda win out over what we all know is safest for our own families and communities.1,194 of 2,000 SignaturesCreated by Nani

Congress Must Act: Gun Violence Is Killing Our Children! There’s something deeply troubling when attack after attack on our schools, places of worship, and community institutions simply go on without any government response beyond thoughts, prayers, and soundbites on cable tv. The gun homicide rate in the United States is 25 times higher than that of other developed countries. Congress must act to pass meaningful legislation immediately. Our families are under attack, and shouldn’t have to live in constant fear of our safety for one more moment. The United States House passed a bill years ago that would require background checks and waiting periods for anyone wanting to buy a gun. These are basic protections we need to start keeping our kids safe, but Republicans in the Senate have blocked it. The bill is up for a vote again in the Senate soon - urge your Senators to pass it - and go even farther to make sure we don’t lose even more elementary school kids.1,981 of 2,000 SignaturesCreated by Nani

Protect Roe. Don't Deny Families Abortion Access! The Supreme Court has drafted an opinion overturning Roe v. Wade, the historic Supreme Court decision that made abortion legal across the United States. If this ruling is issued it will take private health care decisions out of the hands of families' and their medical providers and instead give politicians power over our bodies. According to the Guttmacher Institute, 59% of people seeking abortions already had one birth, and 75% of patients had income below the federal poverty level or are considered low-income. Attacks on reproductive healthcare have already made abortion practically inaccessible to millions of families. If the draft opinion becomes official, millions more, particularly low-income people and people of color, will lose access to important reproductive health care, have the ability to decide their own future taken away, and be left to the mercy of local politicians. Safe, legal abortion is health care that millions of families need. Restricting or eliminating access to abortion not only negatively impacts the personal and financial life of an individual parent, but that of their family as well. This is NOT a done deal. Congress can still act to protect everyone’s right to safe, legal abortion. The Women’s Health Protection Act would protect a person’s ability to determine whether to continue or end a pregnancy, and to protect a health care provider’s ability to provide reproductive healthcare. Let Congress know that you support reproductive freedom for all by demanding that they pass the Women's Health Protection Act into law.868 of 1,000 Signatures

Stop the ‘Don’t Say Gay’ BillMy name is Jaime. I’m a mom and teacher in Florida. My husband and I have three amazing children— our youngest is transgender. Our family is one of many with a personal stake in stopping the discriminatory “Don’t Say Gay” (HB 1557/SB 1834) bill currently working its way through the Florida legislature because our daughter identifies as a girl even though she was mistakenly assigned male at birth. Because of how she chooses to express her authentic self, our daughter has been bullied at school. We fear the passage of a bill to ban any discussion of children’s LGBTQ+ identity will hurt kids and limit schools’ ability to foster an overall environment of compassion and kindness to all. Right now, politicians in FL are proposing a bill that would BAN some educators from teaching about LGBTQ+ people. This bill would make it illegal for any elementary school staffer—including teachers and school counselors—to talk about LGBTQ+ people. They would be barred from talking about how kids express their gender identity, or the fact that some kids have two dads or two moms. And if a child confides in their teacher or counselor about their own identity, that staff member would be required to disclose that to their parents, even if there were concerns about potential abuse. Sadly, a third of all LGBTQ+ youth report being physically abused by parents due to their identity. Requiring staff to tell parents puts children at a huge and unacceptable risk of violence. Sign the petition now and tell FL legislators and the governor to oppose this dangerous bill. Thank you.250 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Jaime J.
