Senate: Do not let Trump's picks go unvetted***UPDATE: Your pressure is working! The congressional hearings for four of Trump's nominees have been delayed. Let's keep up the pressure to ensure all nominees are thoroughly vetted before their hearings.*** Starting with Jeff Sessions, the Senate is trying to hurry through congressional hearings for 10 of Donald Trump's controversial Cabinet nominations—before the nominees have gone through the standard ethics review process. The director of the nonpartisan Office of Government Ethics said that this rushed schedule is "of great concern," and that this may leave some of Trump's selections with "potentially unknown or unresolved ethics issues." We can't sit back and let the Senate confirm millionaires, billionaires, and politicians influenced heavily by corporate lobbyists without insisting that they undergo standard background and ethics checks.349,698 of 400,000 SignaturesCreated by Jacob Swenson-Lengyel, People's Action

Bad Mickey: Tell Disney to Dump TrumpDisney CEO Bob Iger serves on Donald Trump’s economic advisory council. While we forced Uber CEO Travis Kalanick to step down last week, Iger refuses to leave the council.[1] In a statement on February 7, Iger said the board is a “great opportunity” that gives him a “pipeline” to speak with Trump.[2] But here’s the thing. There’s no negotiating with an administration that is attacking immigrants, handing government over to Wall Street, and planning to take healthcare away from millions. Tens of thousands of People’s Action and MoveOn members – together with hundreds of thousands of Uber users and workers – forced Uber CEO Travis Kalanick to resign from Trump’s council. We can do it again. We will not let corporate collaborators off the hook. Demand Disney CEO Bob Iger resign from Trump’s economic advisory council immediately and stop collaborating with Trump. ---------- [1]"Uber C.E.O. to Leave Trump Advisory Council After Criticism." Don't let Trump's budget destroy the Superfund Program or the EPAI lived at Love Canal—which was the catalyst for the national Superfund program—with my two small children. More than 20,000 tons of chemical wastes were buried in our community—causing disease and painful illness. My daughter had a rare blood disease, and my son suffered from many medical problems, including liver disease, asthma, and epilepsy. Our house was worthless and our American dream taken away through no fault of our own. Fifty-six percent of our children were born with birth defects. I am also old enough to remember the black smoke of the steel mills, the rivers catching fire and sickness and death in communities that surrounded the factories. The magnitude of cuts suggested by this administration will take America back decades. There is no gentle way to state the obvious: Donald Trump's priority is corporations over people, children, and the planet. These cuts will gut the agency removing protections for American families. Cuts in the EPA budget mean no one is watching the polluters. No one will be there to make the polluters pay for cleanup and the costs of sick children from asthma, cancer, birth defects, and so much more. Rather than weakening the EPA and environmental protections, we should be strengthening rules to protect communities from the impacts of factory farms, fossil fuel production and use, and other pollution sources, and we should be working to ensure all people have access to clean water, safe food, and a livable climate.30,921 of 35,000 SignaturesCreated by Lois Gibbs

Stop Trump's Corporate CoupIn his first news conference since July, President-elect Donald Trump announced Wednesday that he will turn his business over to his sons Donald Jr. and Eric, who double as some of Trump’s closest political advisors.[1] Walter Shaub, the Director of the Office of Government Ethics, called the move “meaningless.” He added, “We can’t risk the perception that government leaders would use their official positions for professional profit.” [2] A quick look at Trump and his billionaire Cabinet picks confirms that we’re headed in that direction. All signs suggest that Trump is ready to hijack our government to enrich himself, his Cabinet, and other members of the financial elite. I believe that our government should work to improve the lives of everyday people, not serve as a tool for the rich and powerful. If you’re with me, sign this petition and demand that Trump sell his financial holdings, place them in a blind trust, and release his tax returns. --------------- [1] “Trump Announces Plan That Does Little to Resolve His Conflicts of Interest.” The Atlantic, January 11, 2017. http://www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2017/01/donald-trump-conflicts-of-interests/508382/ [2] “Federal ethics chief blasts 'meaningless' Trump business plan.” The Hill, January 11, 2017. http://thehill.com/business-a-lobbying/313864-government-ethics-chief-blasts-trump-business-plan43,962 of 45,000 SignaturesCreated by George Goehl, People's Action

Tell Mitch McConnell: No Hearings Before Ethics ReviewsOn Saturday, the Office of Government Ethics reported that several of President-elect Donald Trump’s Cabinet nominees have not completed the ethics review process. Many of Mr. Trump’s nominees have extensive financial holdings that may present serious conflicts of interest. We stand opposed to holding confirmation hearings for Mr. Trump’s nominees until their ethics reviews have been completed. The hearings and votes must be delayed to ensure due diligence in this vital democratic process. The role of the president and of U.S. legislators is to uphold the Constitution, democracy, and our most cherished values as a nation. Rushing the confirmation process without completing adequate ethics reviews before confirmation hearings endangers all three.2,273 of 3,000 SignaturesCreated by Jacob Swenson-Lengyel

Tell Congress: Health Care Implosion Is Not An OptionOn Wednesday during President-elect Donald Trump's first press conference since July, he said about the Affordable Care Act: "let it implode in '17." [1] Millions of Americans and their families rely on the ACA, Medicare and Medicaid to keep their families healthy -- and to help them when they get sick. Now President-elect Trump and other Republicans in Congress want to take our health care away, rather than expanding and improving it so that we pay lower premiums, get cheaper prescription drugs, and have a plan that works best for their family. It is outrageous that President-elect Trump and Republicans in Congress want to undo improvements to our healthcare system rather than working to expand and build upon them. Please take action by signing this petition and sharing it with your friends and family. [1] "Donald Trump’s News Conference: Full Transcript and Video." Stop Trumpcare 2.0Republicans are trying (yet again) to repeal our health care. Their plan would push more than 24 million people off their health coverage, just to boost profits for drug and insurance corporations and give tax breaks to billionaires. Rep. Tom MacArthur (R-NJ), my congressman, is leading the charge. My name is Barbara Blonsky and I live in Mt. Laurel, New Jersey. The Affordable Care Act (ACA) literally saved my life. I was diagnosed with breast cancer more than 20 years ago. Because of the ACA, I have been able to get the care I need, even though I have a pre-existing condition. Now, Rep. MacArthur is pushing other Republicans to repeal the ACA and undermine protections for people like me, with pre-existing conditions. It would also gut Medicaid and raise premiums. Sign my petition and demand Rep. MacArthur and his Republican pals drop their bill. Let's kill this bill before it kills us.218 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Barbara Blonsky, People's Action
