Tell FIFA: Recognize the Afghan women’s national soccer teamThe fight for women's rights in Afghanistan is a long and ongoing battle that has taken a huge step backwards with recent Taliban control. Despite immense danger and sacrifice, the Afghan women's soccer team is working to prove progress is possible. By breaking down cultural barriers and taking the field, they are not only challenging societal norms, but they are also providing a source of hope and inspiration. The problem? FIFA, the governing body of international soccer, refuses to recognize the team. This failure means the women cannot represent their country, compete in professional matches, or receive the funding they need to pay players and staff. But that can change. After months of player protests and widespread criticism over its human rights abuses in Doha, FIFA is eager to rehabilitate its image. And with the Women's World Cup taking place in Australia and New Zealand this July, FIFA will once again be center stage — and sensitive to public pressure and protest. Right now, FIFA’s PR machine is closely watching and listening. That means we have a crucial opportunity to call on them to use their power for good. Can you join us to support women’s rights and diplomacy by signing our petition to FIFA President Gianni Infantino?7 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Stephen Miles

Tell Congress: Stop Bannon's national security takeoverSteve Bannon is a dangerous right-wing extremist, and Donald Trump just gave him a seat at the most powerful table in the world. The National Security Council is a group of the president's most senior military, diplomatic, and intelligence advisors, or at least it's supposed to be. Under a directive issued on Saturday by Donald Trump, Steve Bannon—the "alt-right," white-nationalist chief strategist to the president—has been appointed to the inner circle of the NSC, while the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the director of national intelligence have been relegated to attend NSC meetings on an "as needed" basis. This unprecedented move politicizes our national security far beyond what George W. Bush and Karl Rove did, and it opens the door to even more disastrous efforts like the Iraq War and the Patriot Act—or much worse. Thankfully, Congress has the power to stop this. Congress created the National Security Council and as recently as last year passed legislation regulating it. Right now, members of Congress are drafting legislation to keep Steve Bannon off the National Security Council and protect the independence of our national security from Donald Trump's political meddling. This isn't just about sending a message. Bannon is reportedly the driving force behind the extreme, un-American executive orders Trump has issued in his first week in office. In fact, according to CNN, Bannon personally spearheaded Trump's order banning all immigrants and visa holders from seven Muslim-majority countries from entering the U.S., and slamming America's door to all refugees indefinitely. Congress must immediately undo this politicization of America's national security. Bannon represents the worst of the Trump administration's hardliners. He has made a career out of facilitating the rise of white nationalism, argued that being perceived as evil is a source of political power, has been praised by the KKK and neo-Nazis, and more. All signs suggest that Bannon believes deeply in the so-called clash of civilizations and that the United States needs to be made into a hub for a new kind of right-wing populism centering on white identity politics. We cannot let this vision be the beating heart of our nation's national security policy. We know that this is terrifying. But the amazing mobilization of our movement over the past 10 days shows that we have the power to stop this. Millions of us have taken to the streets: from the unprecedented Women's March to the actions across the country at airports that helped reunite families torn apart by Trump's Muslim ban. Now it's time to keep the architect of Donald Trump's hateful and dangerous agenda away from America's national security. Take two minutes to make sure your members of Congress hear loudly and clearly that they must act.442,479 of 500,000 SignaturesCreated by Stephen Miles

Stop #TrumpParade NowTrump is forcing active-duty servicemembers to march down the streets of Washington, D.C. — on Veteran’s Day weekend — in a massive and dangerous tribute to his own ego. And Congress is not doing nearly enough to stop it. If we can raise a nonstop ruckus in the halls of Congress, we can spoil Trump’s ego parade by turning it into a big public embarrassment. Add your name to demand Congress step in and stop Trump’s dangerous parade.68,606 of 75,000 SignaturesCreated by Stephen Miles

Fox Business: Don't Invest in a Regime that Murders JournalistsSaudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, a U.S. resident, was just apparently killed on the eve of his wedding— and news reports suggest that the Saudi government was responsible. If that’s true, this is the latest in a long line of actions by the Saudi government cracking down on dissidents and murdering civilians. But U.S. news outlets have consistently propped up the image of Saudi crown prince Mohammed bin Salman as a reformer, giving him a free pass to continue executing Saudi activists, bombing Yemeni children in school buses, and using starvation as weapon of war in Yemen. The New York Times and all other media sponsors have already pulled out of the Saudi government's upcoming high-powered investment conference in the wake of Jamal Khashoggi's apparent murder. But Fox Business is still planning to sponsor the conference, giving a seal of approval to bin Salman’s repressive regime. Add your name to demand #JusticeforJamal and insist Fox Business stop enabling Saudi government repression.25,412 of 30,000 SignaturesCreated by Stephen Miles

Tell President Biden: Shut down Guantánamo Bay!Rather than taking active steps to close the Guantánamo Bay detention facility, President Biden is actively expanding it. According to The New York Times, the Pentagon has begun building a new $4 million courtroom at Guantánamo where the United States plans to hold secret trials starting in 2023. That means at least another year of this ongoing national shame. It’s not only far from the closure we wanted to see, it’s working backward from it. But before ground breaks we have a moment of opportunity to remind the president of our decades-long demand: CLOSE GUANTÁNAMO. Sign now to send the president a message he can't miss: the time to shut down Guantánamo is now!56 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Stephen Miles

Tell the Media: War is not entertainmentWhen U.S. presidents order military action, the American people need and deserve a strong, vibrant, and independent news media, one that not only challenges the assumptions that lead us to war, but also one that holds our leaders accountable for the way in which they are conducted. When President Trump illegally launched military strikes on Syria, and later, when the U.S. military dropped one of the largest conventional weapons in its arsenal on a target in Afghanistan, we witnessed some of the most irresponsible and reckless coverage from the corporate media since they helped President Bush launch the Iraq war. War is not entertainment. But the media is glorifying Donald Trump’s warmaking, and it’s time we make them stop.23,225 of 25,000 SignaturesCreated by Stephen Miles, Win Without War

Tell DC Mayor Bowser and DC Council: Stop Trump's War ParadeTrump just ordered plans to send tanks, troops, and guns down the streets of Washington, D.C. This is the kind of parade that dictators around the world use to try and intimidate their enemies and, more importantly, their own citizens. This is not democracy, and this is not American. Urge Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser to act immediately and shut down Trump’s war parade. This is not democracy. Urge Washington, D.C.'s Mayor Muriel Bowser and the DC Council to act immediately and shut down Trump's war parade by refusing to issue permits, allocate resources, or otherwise cooperate with such an outrageous idea.318,262 of 400,000 SignaturesCreated by Stephen Miles

Stop PompeoThe United States needs a secretary of state who will represent the best principles of our nation to the rest of the world. Mike Pompeo is not that person. He is a supporter of the Global Gag Rule, which hurts our ability to promote reproductive health around the world. He opposes LGBTQ rights. As the top recipient of campaign donations from the Koch brothers, he has stymied action on one of the world’s most serious security threats: global climate change. He supports the use of torture. He has longstanding relationships with anti-Muslim extremists. And his hawkish views on Iran and North Korea could very well lead us into another disastrous war. For all of these reasons, Mike Pompeo is absolutely the wrong choice to serve as the United States’ top diplomat, and the U.S. Senate should #StopPompeo by voting "no" on his nomination.66,103 of 75,000 SignaturesCreated by Stephen Miles

Tell Defense Sec. Austin: No Racist Plaques at West Point!A hate group like the KKK should have no place of recognition on any college campus, let alone one where soldiers are trained to kill. But for decades, “cadets” at West Point have walked past a panel of three plaques that includes an image of a hooded figure and the words “Ku Klux Klan”. Ultimately, the Secretary of Defense will have the final say, and that’s why we’re going straight to the top! What happens next is crucial — Sec. Austin has heard from Congress, he’s heard from racial justice leaders, and now he needs to hear from grassroots activists just like you.674 of 800 SignaturesCreated by Stephen Miles

It’s not enough to hit pause on human rights violationsIt’s not enough to hit pause on human rights violations Did you know the Biden administration has asked Israel to pause “actions in the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem that could create tensions” ahead of the president’s visit to the region this week? That means they’ll play “nice” while the diplomats meet, but once the president is gone, it’s back to business as usual: occupation, evictions, bulldozers, and violence. Take Masafer Yatta — just weeks before President Biden’s first official visit to the Middle East, Israel began the largest forced eviction in the West Bank in DECADES. At least 1,000 Palestinians living in the villages of Masafer Yatta are facing eviction as the Israeli government continues its strategy of illegal encroachment in the West Bank. It’s not enough for the Israeli government to simply pause their human rights violations, and we can help put a stop to them once and for all. Usually, this kind of aggression by Israel’s government would be overlooked by the United States. But with President Biden touching down in the region today, and members of Congress already speaking out, we have a unique opportunity to push for more and to STOP the evictions and demolitions before it’s too late.30 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Stephen Miles
