2020 Plainwell Varsity Boys Soccer Team
Late on Friday, October 16, 2020 Plainwell Community Schools mandated elearning and put a halt on all activities, including all sporting events, that would effectively end the season for the 2020 Plainwell Varsity Boys Soccer team. The soccer team is scheduled to play in the second round of the State Districts Tournament on Monday, October 19, 2020. Our soccer team and families have complied with all rules without issue, and like the other schools in the area that are still participating in the soccer season, if we are healthy and able, want the team to play on Monday. The families and scholar-athletes are asking for support to influence the Plainwell Community School Administration to reverse their policy to allow the soccer team to participate in all soccer activities, including playing in the game on Monday, if the following items are met:
1) The athletes and the families review the risks and agree to formally authorize the student-athletes to participate
2) comply with all rules and testing since the beginning of the season.

Why is this important?
The COVID-19 virus must be respected and has the potential for easy spreading and risks up to death, especially for those that have the highest risks factors. Understanding this, we still advocate that everyone should educate themselves on the issues and have the right to make an informed decision on how to move forward for themselves and their families. We will continue to respect and comply with all rules defined by government and organizations if we choose to live in or participate in activities. It is becoming increasingly concerning that the norm for government and administration to mandate rather than solicit opinions through voting.
As West Virginia President E. Gordon Gee told Yahoo Sports in May 2020 that "the mental health of the nation needs to be served also. There's a battle going on between science, politics, and common sense. Up to this point, science has won and rightly so. We need to start finding the middle ground and manage those middle grounds."
