A NATIONAL PROGRAM TO PROTECT SCHOOLS

Something must be done immediately to protect our children, who remain as vulnerable at school today as the tragic victims at Newtown were. While debate on gun control will rage for months and years before anything meaningful can be accomplished, there exists an immediate technological solution that defends our children and is much less difficult to navigate than the 2nd Amendment quagmire. Gunshot sensors have already been effectively installed in municipalities around the country. Protecting schools with inconspicuous, focused and effective placement of these devices would deter criminals from selecting schools as potentially easy targets, without making our teachers and students simultaneously feel like prisoners. Such devices would instantly notify police of trouble, decreasing police response time for future incidents from minutes to seconds, and even pinpoint the location of perpetrators, thereby saving lives. Congress should therefore fund a nationwide initiative to have all our public schools protected by this useful technology.

Why is this important?

An initiative to install gunshot sensors around public schools would take them off the list of easy targets for criminals and provide instant police notification in future crises, all without intimidating our children, arming our teachers, or infringing anyone's protected rights.
