A Policy To END FAMILY SEPARATION AT THE BORDER
A POLICY TO END FAMILY SEPARATION AT THE BORDER
WE THE PEOPLE have the power to protect migrant children and END the ongoing inhumane policy of separating families at the border.
We all feel the excruciating pain of imprisoned migrant children who are suffering under government sanctioned neglect and abuse. It is heartbreaking. We can demand the end of this policy immediately as we take a stand to demand policies that can serve the better good. THE GOOD NEWS IS THESE PROGRAMS ALREADY EXIST.
Years of human rights advocacy and humanitarian aid have given us vast knowledge of effective programs during humanitarian crises.
Billions have been allocated to aid in the crisis yet children are living in deplorable unsafe and unsanitary conditions.
Our plan would:
END FAMILY SEPARATION IMMEDIATELY
STIMULATE BORDER TOWN ECONOMIES
SAVE TAXPAYERS BILLIONS
ALLOW HUMANITARIAN AID
FEED FAMILIES HEALTHY FOODS ALLOW DUE PROCESS
PROVIDE SOAP, SHAMPOO TOOTHBRUSHES and TOOTHPASTE
HOW:
Enact transitional shelter assistance: TSA is always enacted during natural disasters and humanitarian crises. Prices for hotel rooms are bartered to a maximum of the $180 a day. Often less expensive rates are available. Make no mistake this is a humanitarian crisis.
Taxpayer benefit:
Currently we pay $750 A-day for each individual migrant. For a family of 3 the total for 30 days in an inhumane to tainment camp is equivalent to $67500.
At pre-negotiated TSA rates of $180 a day for the same family is equivalent to $5400 a month.
Provide Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP) to reunited families in TSA shelter's with a monthly benefit of $540 per family of three.
Health screening/medical care:
Medical care would continue to be provided by Office of Refugee Resettlement which has been overwhelmed and has not been able to provide adequate medical care. Experienced family practitioners, doctors and nurses all over the country have stepped forward to donate their time. Our policy would demand experienced and Cori checked volunteer doctors and nurses could work in unison with ORR to help provide vital medical care to increase better outcomes for families.
Security:
Security at hotels would be provided by the same officers that protect the detainment camps. US Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency.
Grocery shopping:
Vetted humanitarian aid workers, case workers or DHS workers would shop weekly using families SNAP benefits and deliver grocery orders to the hotel's.
Case Management:
Case managers in the community with the assistance and support of volunteer licensed social workers( thousands have already signed up to volunteer) would develop family wrap-around services and psychological support.
Under a TSA program shampoo, soap toothbrushes and toothpaste would be provided by hotels.
