President Obama, I urge you to commit to peace in South Sudan, support an arms embargo to stop the deadly flow of weapons and impose sanctions against those who are responsible for the mass violence that could become the world's next genocide.
Why is this important?
For the last 18 months South Sudan has been devastated by a brutal civil war, the risk of widespread famine and the threat of genocide. On July 24, that can change.
President Obama heads to Africa on July 24th and will be visiting several of South Sudan’s neighbors who are leading peace negotiations.
The U.S. was instrumental in helping South Sudan forge its independence and has been a strong voice for peace in South Sudan since the fighting broke out in December 2013.
Now, it’s time for the President to take the next step and use his time face-to-face with regional leaders to demand an agreement
After 18 months of war, tens of thousands killed and the threat of famine looming, the people of South Sudan can wait no longer.
