Governor McMaster: SC Massage Therapists are Essential!
I petition you to reopen massage therapy establishments and allow therapists to work with clients one on one. Allowing massage therapists to reopen and work one on one with clients will help many people with physical, mental and emotional wellness. We are licensed by the state board and have been professionally trained in proper safety, cleaning and disinfecting protocols before and after every massage. Most massage therapists only work one on one with patients, so that makes it easier for us to be extra cautious to avoid COVID-19 contamination.
Why is this important?
Massage therapy is important not only because it is our chosen profession and source of income, but also because our clients need their regularly scheduled massage therapy sessions to deal with pain, stress, anxiety and mobility problems. The government has deemed us "non-essential", but I assure you that massage therapists are essential and even crucial to our patients. Some clients can still have appointments with physical therapists in our state, but that doesn’t always help with soft tissue maladies and the emotional well being of our clients. Massage is a huge factor in improving physical, mental and emotional health for many people and an integral part of their health regimens. Many massage therapists are self employed and only work one on one with clients that they have known for years and with whom they have developed a level of trust and confidence. Getting massage therapists back to work will be beneficial to the therapists as well as our clients and the well being of our community. Please join me and other massage therapists in requesting essential status from the state of South Carolina, so that we are able to get back to work as soon as possible to keep our small businesses open and help our clients.
