Allow Supportive Housing Residents to Go to School!
Currently, the IRS tax code prohibits adult residents of Supportive Housing (financed by tax-credits) from attending school full-time. This forces formerly homeless people to choose between housing and higher education. Let's change the tax code so those living in tax-credited buildings can go to school full-time (Currently, they can only be in school part-time. They can lose their housing if they go to school full time).
Why is this important?
Community Housing Partnership believes that people who are in supportive housing have the right to jobs, housing, and a better future. Obtaining a higher education is a pathway out of poverty for many. Yet current IRS regulations are a barrier to full-time study if you live in Supportive Housing.
