Allowing Our Children From Single Parents In Low Income Families To Stay In School
Currently there are laws and regulations that allow for full-time students to receive welfare, food stamps and housing assistance if they are still at home and participate in a work study program provided through the welfare office on a full-time schedule. This does not allow for the student to focus on their education and has them taking on a full-time education as well as a full-time work study program and compromises their grades. We need to be able to use the EOF program to provide the work study program on the college campus instead of having the students spending a full-time schedule at welfare allowing for the same benefits of rental assistance, food stamps and medical benefits to the student therefore allieviating the burden on the single parent low income house hold and its members from struggling while ensuring that the student succeeds in their education.
Why is this important?
The nations low income families who have children in single parent homes are forced to consider having their children go to work to contribute to the household expenses instead of finishing school so that they can become self sufficient and move out on their own to take care of themselves and becoming productive citizens. We need to petition the Government to allow for college students passing their classess to have a stable home that is not going under to take care of their children housing, meals and transporation costs.
