Ammo sales taxes pay for mental health

I would like to see a tax on ammunition and gun sales that would fund mental health programming, specifically the homeless mentally ill and those who need mental health services and cannot afford them.

Why is this important?

Working in social services for over 22 years, I have watched programs for the poor and mentally ill lose funding and support. It is devastating to watch the poor and mentally ill lose the ability to be served. I have also watched how some people's desire for individual freedoms appear to trump the freedoms of the masses. Gun ownership is one of these individual freedoms that has many times impacted the freedoms of the masses. We witness this everyday in the violence we see and hear about.
When we take care of those who cannot take care of themselves, we celebrate the freedoms of everyone.
