Nine-year-old Antonio Smith's murder in Chicago must be mourned by all people who seek peace and justice. We, the undersigned, demand an end to the violence, the conditions that evoke it, and the policies that promote it.
Why is this important?
Last week, nine-year-old Antonio Smith ran out of his house on the South Side of Chicago, angry that his mother wouldn't let him have a cupcake. It was about four o'clock in the afternoon. A few minutes later, Antonio was shot to death on the street a few blocks from his home by an unidentified gunman, for no apparent reason.
Antonio's family has invited the public to the funeral.
