Ban fracking in Utah

Utah is at risk for a major earthquake. Fracking for natural gas has been shown to drastically increase the potential of an earthquake.

Why is this important?

Around 2 million people, about 75% of Utah's population live along The Wasatch Fault. Fracking for natural gas has been shown to drastically increase the potential of an earthquake.
The 240-mile-long Fault is made up of several segments, each of which can independently produce earthquakes as powerful as magnitude 7.5.During the past 6,000 years, a strong earthquake (magnitude greater than 6.5) has occurred about once every 350 years somewhere along the Wasatch Fault. The economical loss alone outweighs any profit possible made from natural gas. Not to mention the loss of lives, homes, and business.

We cannot afford to tempt an earthquake here in Utah. Learn about what happened in Ohio when they allowed fracking in a state with fault lines here: http://www.nbcnews.com/science/fracking-practices-blame-ohio-earthquakes-8C11073601 Do a little research, it isn't hard to find evidence that fracking for natural gas can help cause earthquakes, and poison water.

Fracking would undoubtedly disturb Wild Utah's outdoors and economy. We have a huge economy here based on tourism, outdoor adventure, and real estate. Fracking will destroy many of the scenic areas tourists come to see, ruin water for existing and future development. Extracting natural gas from Utah's environment will slow down or halt all three of these industries.

Besides, natural gas won't be a cheaper energy source for long. USA already exports it, and many powers that be, like the Trans-Pacific Partnership want to increase natural gas export into foreign economies which will pay a lot more for natural gas, driving our prices at home up and damaging the environment further.

Many cities, states, and even countries are banning fracking. The list is so long, but here is a great url for evidence:http://keeptapwatersafe.org/global-bans-on-fracking/

There is no sound reason to frack in Utah. After a few low paid temporary jobs and economical stimulation, fracking in Utah will make a few non Utahans rich, while destroying generations of clean water, scenery, and worst of all destruction like we have never seen yet in modern Utah. Let's not encourage the earth to rumble, we have many other alternatives for energy than to frack Utah.
