The U.S. should pass legislation banning the importation, sale or any transaction involving shark fins in any business or locality in the country. Businesses would have six months to use up their existing stock of shark fins and afterwards would be subject to stiff fines and/or
imprisonment for noncompliance.
Why is this important?
Shark finning is a cruel and inhumane practice which affects numerous endangered and threatened species of sharks worldwide. America should provide an example for the rest of the world that such a barbaric violation of common standards of decency towards other living beings will not be tolerated.
