To ban the use of single use plastic bags and allow a minimum charge of 0.05 cents per compostable or reusable bag used.
Why is this important?
On average, plastic bags take 1,000 years to break down, meaning this is a problem that won't go away anytime soon. Therefore, people are being encouraged to adopt new methods of carrying products, such as reusable bags, to cut down on plastic consumption. I want to start this petition to legally ban plastic bag use to all retailers in the city and requiring a 5 cent pass through cost on paper bags to encourage reusable bags and increase awareness of other green alternative options.Using your own cloth bag over and over again to carry goods from the store to your own door could save 350-500 plastic bags a year. With this small action
from everyone in our community we could make a positive impact on our
environment and on the way we see all single use plastics.
