Become Worlds Ahead: Install Bike/ Skate lanes in and around FIU campus
Bike/skate lanes should be installed in and around FIU's MMC in order to reduce the risk of incidents to pedestrians, increase the safety of bikers and skaters, while still allowing bikers and skaters an efficient mode of transportation around MMC's 342.2 acres.
Why is this important?
On January 20, 2015, I was on my way home to my apartment across 8th from FIU when I was almost run over by an SUV. I was in the street because the sidewalk has been closed due to construction. In order to avoid being hit I moved closer to the construction fence and ended up falling on my face and breaking my nose. This is not the first dangerous encounter I have had with cars while walking to school. With enrollment at an all time high of near 54,000 students , walking on campus is a pain and skating unfathomable because it feels as though everyone is being corralled. FIU's MMC consists of 342.2 acres and 109 permanent buildings. All students, bikers, skaters, walkers and roller- bladers alike should be provided with safe passage to and from class.
