Better Pay for Our Librarians
Alexandria is losing library staff to libraries in surrounding jurisdictions because they pay them better. The Council must upgrade the pay scale in the 2024 City Budget for all Alexandria Library staff so that it is competitive with those of other surrounding jurisdictions including DC, Arlington, and Fairfax County.
Why is this important?
Libraries are an important part of our communities. They provide centers for education, cultural enrichment, childhood development and entertainment for all at a very reasonable price — free. Well-trained, competent and courteous library staff are essential to the functioning of good libraries. Stop the exodus of qualified library staff!
