We call on all federal, state and local public and private officials and leaders to bring MBTA passenger rail service to the MA Southcoast's cities and towns.
Why is this important?
The Massachusetts Southcoast cities of Fall River, New Bedford, and Taunton are the only eastern Massachusetts cities not served by the MBTA. Consistently, the Massachusetts Southcoast has higher unemployment than the rest of Massachusetts and remains in a recession long after the rest of Massachusetts recovers. Economic recovery in the communities of the Southcoast require passenger rail service. Recently, the MBTA heralded a passenger rail link through Providence to South Kingston in Rhode Island. The Massachusetts Southcoast should be linked to Boston via the MBTA.
