Brittany Yevette Griner is an American professional basketball player for the Phoenix Mercury of the Women’s National Basketball Association. She has now been held in Russian Custody for over 130 days! Russian officials claimed she had vape cartridges containing hashish oil in her luggage. She was completely unaware that this would go against any Russian laws, but was still detained. This ordeal began a week before Russia invaded Ukraine. She just pleaded guilty to drug charges in the Russian court system, admitting to bringing cannabis into the country. She stated that she had packed in a hurry and did not intend to break the law.
This Phoenix Mercury Center and Olympic medalist could face up to 10 years in prison if convicted.
