This petition requires that any political advertisement displayed on the internet disclose the actual top 5 funders of that ad, following the same requirements of the recent AB14 California disclosure act. This would include, but not be limited to, social media sites such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
Why is this important?
California must lead the way in campaign and political transparency. The state has already passed the California Disclose Act for television ads and is working on a disclosure petition for voter petitions. The internet is another important medium that should be subject to the same rules of disclosure and transparency.
