California Musicians for an Open Internet.

A free and open world depends on a free and open Web. The Internet empowers everyone to speak, create, learn, and share. It is controlled by no single organization, individual, or government. It connects the world, and we should protect it. That's why I'm asking all musicians and supporters of music to sign this petition and remind our government that we will not sit back and let them hand over the Internet to corporate greed. This is not a partisan issue it affects everything and benefits only a select few.

Why is this important?

This is a no brainer! An open Internet is the only option if we're trying to keep things fair and away from greedy paws like Comcast. I, being a musician, can't stress enough how hugely the open Internet has helped independent musicians survive and distribute their music without the help of greedy record companies.

As we all know, in the recent past, major record companies tried to control how we use the internet. We fought them, and we won. The whole music industry is a whole lot more fair and balanced than before. One can publish, market, and sell their music without ever talking to a record company. I think if companies like Verizon and Comcast are regulating the Web, they will start to try and regulate everything else. This will directly effect music. If one person or corporation has too much power they tend to put their priorities first and that almost always screws the majority. This is a fact. So let's end this. We're watching you, Mr. Wheeler.
