We, the people of New Mexico, USA, are asking our elected representatives in both the Senate and House (of Representatives) to individually or as a group publicly denounce the National Rifle Association.
We ask that you donate any funds previously contributed (donated) by the NRA to your campaign to the survivors or victim’s families of gun violence, gun buyback programs, or to a charity that funds mental health programs for teens.
We ask that you vow to never again accept donations from any gun lobby, including the NRA, so we as a country can have a level conversation about gun laws without our elected officials being tied to a pro-gun association.
We ask that you comply with our requests in a show of good faith to all your constituents – both pro-gun laws and anti-gun laws – so we can be certain that a membership-driven propaganda machine with millions of dollars to push their initiatives is not swaying your position on this important issue.
Why is this important?
Removing special-interest lobbying groups from directly influencing our elected officials' positions on gun laws will give actual voters a louder voice in the decision-making process on whether to vote for or against legislation on this very important issue.
