Tell Backpage.com to stop helping child sex traffickers.
On January 9th, Backpage.com closed its long running escort section and for a brief period many people declared victory for human trafficking. It turns out people jumped the gun far too early and many pimps simply moved the children that they are trafficking onto Backpage's dating and massage sections.
As of today March 26th, child trafficking is still going on Backpage with no end in site.
The website Backpage.com is doing the unthinkable—they are earning money from photo advertisements posted by pimps and traffickers that sell underage girls for sex.
In fact, Backpage.com is believed to be the largest seller nationwide of online prostitution ads involving children. This includes children as young as 13 years old.
Despite the cash it brings them, Backpage.com claims they have no responsibility for the ad content or the horrors these victims experience when they are sold for sex.
The Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, chaired by Ohio Republican U.S. Sen. Rob Portman, slammed Backpage last month in January with a report and hearing in which the site's owners and executives were accused of abetting human trafficking. The report, based on 1.1 million Backpage documents obtained under subpoena, said Backpage removed words such as ""Lolita," "rape," "little girl" and "Amber Alert" from ads -- and also coached advertisers not to use them -- while knowing the resulting ads were still in service of pimps and prostitution rings exploiting and abusing girls.
