City of Kingston: Release the 35 Properties as Permanent Affordable Housing

We demand that the 35 properties currently owned by the City of Kingston be immediately reserved as permanently affordable housing stock, based on the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development standards of affordable housing of no more than 30% of income. The median incomes reported in the 2018 Patterns for Progress Housing Profile for the City of Kingston is under $30,000 in Kingston and under $32,000 in Ulster County. These must be the statistics used in determining the cost of the rents of these units as we are seeing an ingress of higher income individuals from downstate which will be changing that data. However for those who were already here in 2018 that will not be changing.

Why is this important?

Workforce housing in Kingston needs to stay where the work is, in the heart of the City of Kingston because the working class is the heart of the City of Kingston. They need to stay where they are.
