Comcast: FIRE professional racist lobbyist Matt Schlapp

Over the last few weeks, countless companies have responded to public pressure and issued statements declaring their support for the Black Lives Matter movement. And yet, many of these companies have been caught in hypocrisy, pushing and supporting elected officials and candidates that are racist and oppose the BLM movement.

An investigation recently revealed that Verizon had hired the right-wing provocateur Matt Schlapp as a lobbyist on Capitol Hill. Schlapp has repeatedly preached that "All lives matter," in an attempt to delegitimize the importance of the current moment, and has a long history of vile, racist rhetoric that dates back years. He had been paid nearly a million dollars by Verizon over the last few years. After receiving scrutiny about having hired Schlapp, Verizon appears to have ended his contract.

In response to the Black Lives Matter protests, Comcast wrote, "Racism, injustice and violence have no place in our society and cannot be tolerated. Yet we continue to be unable to make enough progress in this country – so at this moment it is critical to step back, face the hard subjects and try to reflect."

However, Comcast has continued to keep Schlapp as a lobbyist, paying him $120,000 a year.
