Concerned Pine Lake Residents Opposed to Greenhaven

The undersigned, as residents of the City of Pine Lake in DeKalb County, GA, petition members of the Georgia General Assembly House of Representatives to vote "No" on HB 644, creating the proposed new city of Greenhaven. This proposed city would completely surround the City of Pine Lake which has existed since 1937 and do potentially irreparable damage to Pine Lake.

Pine Lake and its residents have worked hard to improve water quality in our lake as well as downstream from the city. These improvements were accomplished through a series of grants and collaborative efforts with both DeKalb County and the Atlanta Regional Commission.

The citizens of Pine Lake would be hindered in their ability to protect this unique environment because they would no longer have a voice in any decisions made by this new city regarding watershed management in the areas immediately surrounding Pine Lake.

We, therefore, urge you to vote "No" on HB 644.

Why is this important?

This bill has now been moved out of Government affairs and onto the House Floor. If it passes today it will crossover to the Senate. We need to keep up the pressure and make our opposition clear. This is an ill-conceived idea and will harm all residents of Dekalb County, not just Pine Lake.
