Poor people (humans!) of Haitian origins, all of them with darker skin complexions, which have been the primary reason for their repression, have been unrooted and pushed over the Haiti-Dominican border by the thousands, with the utter silence, if not complicity, of the United States. On its part, the Haitian Government has failed to adequately prepare for these waves of dispossessed, dirt poor and stateless migrants.
Why is this important?
Immigration issues currently play a big role in the political climate in the United States. Some are obsessed with what is happening at the Mexican border, but not willing to confront the moral principles that are inherent in this discussion. A good example is that the U.S. government has so far continued to support both Haitian and Dominican governments, while closing their eyes to the vast human tragedy that is unfolding at the Haiti-DR borders. One has to wonder, what do we stand for?
