Congress: Protect our electric power grid from terrorism
Pass the Grid Reliability and Infrastructure Defense (GRID) Act, HR Bill 4298 of the 113th Congress. The bill provides the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) with the authority it needs to effectively address physical, cyber, electromagnetic pulse, and other threats to and vulnerabilities of the electric grid.
Why is this important?
The electrical power grid is vulnerable to prolonged and catastrophic collapse due to terrorism by nuclear weapon generated electromagnetic pulse (EMP), cyber attack, and physical attack, or from EMP power surge from solar flare CME. Without electrical power possibly for years, Americans will be denied access to food, water, communications, transportation, gas and oil, health services, government, banking, etc., as outlined in the 2008 EMP Commission report to Congress, a catastrophe for our nation. Passage of HR Bill 4298 will bring protection to the power grid and its electrically dependent infrastructures vital to our nation's survival.
