Why is this important?
I'm an elementary school literacy teacher at a Title 1 school. Many of our students come from single-parent, low-income families, as well as having English as their second language. I teach them the importance of learning to speak and read English, and that they will benefit from being lifelong readers and writers.
I would like these children to see that their families do, in fact, have a voice, and that registered voters in the United States decide elections. I want to make sure that this primary doesn't prove me wrong.
