Create and implement a pedestrian safety plan for the Umass Amherst Campus

Dear Chancellor Subbaswamy,

Freshman and UMass student Elena Lucore's death on the rainy evening of February 22, 2022 while crossing Massachusetts Avenue, located on the UMass Amherst campus, with a friend has alerted the UMass Amherst community at large to the fact that the campus is unsafe for pedestrians and that a pedestrian safety plan needs to be created and implemented immediately in order to prevent further accidents like this from occurring. We urge you to make pedestrian safety a priority and request that you take action on this critical issue immediately.

Why is this important?

No pedestrian on the UMass Amherst Campus should be be worried that their life is in peril because of poor lighting, inadequate crossing paths and the lack of other protective measures.
