Declare Corn an Official Allergen

Corn allergies have increased 949.9% in the last 85 months as of July 31, 2020.

Why is this important?

Hospitals/physicians are not required to report food allergy statistics into any state and/or government database. Therefore, it is dangerous and irresponsible for any person, physician, or organization to declare that specific food allergies are rare; e.g., corn. As a result, my state FDA representative encouraged me to track the statistics of one (of many) corn allergy groups as a "sample population." There is an emerging corn allergy crisis.

  • The number of foods, medications, beauty products, and every day items that contain corn or a corn derivative is shocking. For those of us with corn allergies or sensitivity, we have to spend a tremendous amount of time and effort researching and calling/ emailing manufacturers to see if their products contain corn. It is too much of a burden to be able to live normally and safely. We MUST know when we are consuming it!!
  • Corn is in EVERYTHING here in the USA! Some of us have to grow our own produce, make our own food, beverages, and condiments- 100% of the time, and can’t have everyday convenience foods. We cannot go to restaurants, BBQ’s, potlucks, or any other social events with food because we can’t eat any of it! It doesn’t just negatively affect our health, it also affects our social life!
  • I'm extraordinarily allergic to corn, and I'm not alone. Trying to navigate this allergy is complex because corn hides in so many things. Labeling is a huge issue, because the presence of corn isn't always stated (e.g. "modified food starch"... which food???) Clarity in labeling - stating whether or not corn or corn derivatives are present - would be life-changing (or life-saving) for so many of us.
