Demand Transparency and Accountability for the Minab School Strike

More than 150 civilians — most of them children — were killed in the February 2026 strike on the Shajareh Tayyebeh girls’ school in Minab, Iran. Multiple independent investigations, along with reporting on internal Department of Defense assessments, indicate that U.S. forces were likely responsible for the attack.

The American public deserves answers. Families of the victims deserve truth. And Congress has the authority — and responsibility — to ensure transparency and accountability when U.S. military operations result in civilian deaths.

We call on the Senate Armed Services Committee, the House Armed Services Committee, and the Senate Foreign Relations Committee to immediately take the following actions:

  • Request a classified briefing from DoD and CENTCOM on the intelligence and targeting decisions that led to the strike

  • Hold public hearings on U.S. targeting procedures and civilian‑harm mitigation

  • Submit written questions to DoD and the State Department regarding the intelligence basis for the strike

  • Release the civilian‑harm assessment once finalized

  • Request a Department of Defense Inspector General investigation into the strike

  • Request a Government Accountability Office review of U.S. targeting protocols and civilian‑harm mitigation systems

These are standard oversight tools well within Congress’s authority.
They are necessary to ensure that U.S. actions align with our laws, our values, and basic human decency.

Accountability only happens when we demand it.
We urge Congress to act now.

Why is this important?

More than 150 civilians — mostly children — were killed, and the public still doesn’t have answers. When a U.S. military operation causes this level of harm, Congress has a responsibility to investigate. Oversight won’t happen unless people demand it. Every signature adds pressure for transparency, accountability, and the truth.
