To: Tom Perez, Chair - Democratic National Committee

Democratic primary debate moderators should make their tax returns public.

At a time when economic inequality is a serious problem, Journalists selected to moderate debates are often among the highest paid and could conceivably lose millions of dollars under a more progressive tax plan. Candidates' debates should be transparent about the moderators' personal financial interest in the results.

Why is this important?

Most Americans favor policies that would reduce economic inequality - for example, higher taxes on the wealthy. However, debate moderators are generally wealthy individuals who benefit from the economic status quo.
