DESIGNATE TONGA AS TPS COUNTRY
Tonga suffered a tsunami that has devastating consequences as a result of the incoming waves. Most of the structures and dwellings some of the islands were completely destroyed. Also, the volcanic eruption and the ashes that blankets the country continues to cause Tonga to face unprecedented disaster where the danger of further eruptions and tsunami risk are great.
Due to this environmental devastation, the Secretary of Homeland Security in the United States may designate Tonga for Temporary Protected Status due to these ongoing environmental disasters that temporarily prevent Tonga's nationals from returning safely, or in certain circumstances, where Tonga is unable to handle the return of its nationals adequately. The Department may grant Temporary Protected Status to eligible nationals of Tonga who are already in the United States.
Countries such as Nepal, Haiti, Burma to name a few have been granted Temporary Protected Status due to the environmental disasters in their countries. Tonga falls into such as situation and deserves to be designated a Temporary Protected Status country.
