To: President Biden
Do everything in your power to protect our democracy and rights before Trump takes office
Thank you for all you have done during your presidency, vice presidency, and nearly 40-year tenure in Congress to strengthen and reaffirm our nation’s commitment to democracy. Your contributions to advancing a multiracial populist agenda–uplifting the needs of hardworking Americans–have left a lasting mark on this country. Now, as you fulfill your democratic obligation by preparing for a peaceful transfer of power, we also ask that you pursue all available executive actions to safeguard the long-term health of our democracy.
The election results have sparked fear among vulnerable communities and action is needed to protect us from what is to come. We specifically urge you to leave no stone unturned, in your remaining time in office, in prioritizing swift and decisive actions that will:
- Protect vulnerable individuals and communities who may be targeted or left behind by a Trump administration
- Protect the public agencies, career civil servants, and other government institutions that serve the people of the United States
- Protect democracy and safeguard voting rights, so the American people can continue to freely exercise our freedoms–most notably, the freedoms to speak, assemble, protest, and once again cast our ballots in free and fair elections.
In the last four years, the Biden administration has made monumental strides toward making the country a more inclusive and equitable place. The American people have spoken by electing our nation’s new leaders, and we understand they will bring a different set of policies and programs. Yet you remain the president and leader of this country until January 20 at noon, and your leadership is needed more now than ever.
Why is this important?
Donald Trump's Project 2025 agenda makes clear his plans for a second presidency–to divide communities, replace civil servants with MAGA extremists, defund critical government agencies, and strip away our fundamental rights.
The stakes couldn't be higher. And with Trump having declared that he’ll be a “dictator on day one,” Biden must do everything in his power to preserve our democracy and mitigate the harm vulnerable communities may experience under Trump's authoritarian rule.
